Selected candidates will join the Center for Environmental Intelligence (CEI) – an interdisciplinary research center at VinUni that applies artificial intelligence and digital technologies to tackle urgent environmental challenges. As part of this role, PhD students will be enrolled in the Computer Science PhD program at VinUni, which offers a fully funded 4-year scholarship along with a living stipend of USD 15,000 per year.

Project Overview

The project “Digital Twin Platform to Empower Communities towards an Eco-friendly and Healthy Future” aims to develop a digital twin of transportation and urban environmental systems in Southeast Asia – where congestion and air pollution present serious challenges to public health and sustainable development.

The project focuses on three main goals: measuring mobility behavior and pollution levels (CO₂, PM2.5); designing dynamic congestion pricing mechanisms to reduce emissions and influence transportation behavior; and simulating future mobility scenarios to inform long-term sustainable policy design for both individuals and freight.

In addition, AI and natural language processing technologies will help citizens choose more efficient modes of transport and gather public feedback on barriers to behavioral change—ensuring that future policies are both data-driven and grounded in social realities.
